On September 24, 2022, the Warrior Cup introduced The Malone Family Foundation to the hockey community. This one-day dek hockey tournament was the first-ever event for the foundation, which raised funds for the Pittsburgh Warriors – a hockey organization of honorably discharged military members with a service-related disability. Teams from around the Pittsburgh region faced-off in Collier Township and battled wholeheartedly for the coveted Warrior Cup against Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni, local professional athletes and the popular hosts from the “On the Bench” podcast. Ryan Malone even defended the net by suiting up as a goaltender throughout the day.

The collegiate team from Robert Morris University were crowned champions and received a suite to a Penguins home game. In the spirit of the Warrior Cup, the RMU students graciously donated the suite to the Veterans from the Pittsburgh Warriors.

The Warrior Cup is forever etched in the hearts of the Malone family as it showed that hockey is truly healing. The event’s success has served as the model for each and every Malone Family Foundation event since and will continue to inspire the future work of our foundation.
